The proposed technical solutions, depending on the raw water source – sea water open intake, beach wells, underground wells, lakes, rivers, municipal water - are tailored to clients' requirements and include the design of the three important plant phases: raw water pre treatment, reverse osmosis plant and permeate water post treatment. The assessment of the raw water quality usually forms the origin of the design of the pre-treatment system of a sea water reverse osmosis SWRO or brackish water reverse osmosis BWRO plant and an efficient and well designed pre treatment system is necessary in order to assure a high performance, long term, reliable and low cost operation of the reverse osmosis R.O. units.
In order to minimize fouling, scaling and membrane degradation the pre-treatment systems are facing the removal of particulate matter such as silt, clay, suspended solids, biological slime, algae, silica, organic compounds, bacterial load, iron, manganese and oxidising compounds such as chlorine employing filter media such as sand, anthracite, activated carbon, greensand, pirolusite and birm. For the removal of raw water total hardness ion exchange resins are utilized and for the raw/produced water disinfection sodium hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, UV radiation or ozonation are employed.
Our R.O. systems are integrated with membrane chemical cleaning system CIP, cartridge safety filtration, chemical dosing set for RO membranes' scaling control, advanced control systems including programmable-logic controllers with RS 232/485, Ethernet and USB ports handling standard as well as specific protocols like Modbus, IEC 60870 and SNMP, colour touch panels for human interface, mimic diagrams and SCADA systems. All the installed RO membranes are innovative in order to ensure high performance, low pressure loss and high fouling resistance together with the high system recovery.
The permeate water post–treatment includes as minimum the pH correction, the rehardening of permeate water, Boron removal facilities if required and the treated water disinfection in order to comply with drinking water standards of World Health Organisation WHO.
